Lads,

I'd just like to echo Wayne's comments. It would be great to see my old club post a quarter century of victories.

Good Luck!

OWLS AC can you look at the following proposed trip to the north east in feb to train with local clubs.Sure to be a classic!! The programme listed are a range of options. There is no need for eg to feel you have to run a fell race etc..Im sure you will all enjoy it greatly and make some good friends.Min age 13. GET BACK TO ME WITH YOUR THOUGHTS.Thanks.

Hi Wayne
I hope you’re well
How does the f...ollowing sound re the training weekend on 10, 11 and 12 Feb
First of all I wanted to suggest having it in the North East. Hopefully it will be a little different for those from Leicester and I think what on offer here will probably be as good as anywhere else. Also, depending on numbers, people will be able to sleep on the floor in my place or if they want to go up market there’s a Travel Lodge down the road. Anyway, have a look at the following proposal for a weekend, needless to say the devil’s in the details and a lot will depend on age/ability.
Friday PM
Arrive – Easy/steady run 5/6m
Sat AM
5k trail race in Sedgefield or
Train with Lindsay Dunn’s group (usually one or two internationals of one level or another there) in Durham. A typical session on the grass may be 1 minute out 1 min back with 60 secs to 90 secs recovery building the out and back runs up to 5 mins. Lindsay is usually pretty relaxed about who takes part and which parts of the session they use or leave. Or
Track session at Durham or Middlesbrough
Sat afternoon
Session on the sand Dunes at Hartlepool
Sat PM
4/5 mile easy run
Sun AM
7.5 mile fell race in Danby North York Moors. There’s no junior race but 16+ are ok to enter. If there some that can’t enter they can simply run the course as a training run
Sun afternoon
Hill circuits on NY Moors
I’ll look to get transport sorted, depending on numbers I might get a minibus otherwise we’ll squeeze people into cars. If I get a minibus I may need to ask something like a £10 per head. Accommodation will be nothing if staying at my place, if people want to stay at the travel lodge they could probably get a room now for about £20 and fit 3 or 4 in each room. Obviously people will need to sort out their own food and of course transport to the North East, Darlington would be the best station and I would look to meet you there. Also, there will be entry for the fell race of about £7

Just to let you know that we have won this title every year from 1990..in 1988 , 89 we were second. If we can get this and  2 years in the bag then we will be on for 25 years consecutive...something to aim for!!

The news however, is that whilst we have a team that should win it comfortably ,due to injuries/coming back from injuries, we are slightly behind. At the moment it is far too close for comfort and all those on the way back should apply the utmost care and then the utmost dedication to ensure they are in good shape..

Suffice it to say EVERYONE will be trying to turn you over in this event, and you have to be prepared for all eventualities. As usual it may come down to one point...

Come on lads lets give it our best shot! If anyone needs any help let me know.

Topic : Thanks and goodbye!

Guys,

Some of you know as ive told you today but for those who dont, im leaving the club now the track and field season is over.

Ive had a cracking time during the period ive been a member ( i reckon its nearly 10 years!!!) and the decision to leave was not an easy one to take.

This season has reignited my passion for throwing and having spent some time training with them already, ill be moving to Rugby and Northampton. They have a very very good throws set up and i can get the coaching i need to help me improve. Ive already spken with Wayne about second claim clubs etc and IF i can continue to compete for OWLs, i will be doing so.

So to all those, old and new, who ive competed with as a team with, thanks for the memories and the good times.

Wayne, you are a star and appreciate everything you did for me!!

Hope you all continue to achieve!

So long.....

Bomber

Topic : midland track and field league

Well done to all those who travelled to Telford and finished 3rd in the mid league track and field event.Apologies some of you had to run in 3 or 4 events but thats what happens when your team mates let you down.

We are now joint second with leic coritanian going into the last fixture for promotion and if that dont wake some of the wasters up then they must be brain dead (some of them actually are...) ANYWAY, lets make ure we get a fighting finish together for the last fixture early august. We have a couple of new recruits who could do well for us and hopefully we can diversify the talents of some of our present members (ie how difficult is it to get a male atlete over 1m40 hj and female over 1.25??!!)

Again m any thanks for those who took the responsibility and did good for the club.Thnaks Tom Mahon for working behind the scenes on the management and tara , paddy and meako for giving lifts...and of course the Foggs who really do support this league with great gusto!!

Topic : Thursday Group

Congratulations to those women who have been coming to the thursday beginners group and have shown tremendous progress! Some of them had a little difficulty jogging around the track initially, but now theyre knocking out 5ks in races and have frequently used the saturday morning parkrun events as a fitness test. Its very motivating to see their speedy progress and there is a hell of a lot more to come.Hopefully they will soon be contributing to a club effort in the Leicestershire Road league.Gemma, Sarah,Esther,Tara,Hannah,Jane WELL DONE!

Topic : Getting Back to speed

There was a time when this chat page was the most used, informative and possibly, radical, in the country.

The intention is to get it back up to scratch.Maybe a few topics to stir the psyche a little; and get the sychophants , commitment phobes and self centred short sighted athletes, we now appear to have, to actually contribute in some small way. At least if we 'encourage' members to come on here there will be no excuse for a lack of communication.I think life has been a litte too comfortable with some of you.

I will be posting a few topics shortly. The first topic is likely to relate to the possibility that the current generation of athletes we have is our most talented but least effective..
