Loughborough Students held their annual open meeting on Saturday at their home at the Paula Radcliffe athletics track at the University. The meeting acted as the trials for the upcoming BUCS outdoor championships next week, while also providing a high quality race for some our athletes to get involved in.

In the 3,000m, 26 athletes toed the line, which made for a very congested race. Paul Miles was the first Owl home, the 25 year old athlete clocking 8.24 for his first outdoor race of the Summer. Sam Stabler, who clocked 3.59 in the week to win the A race at a Watford Open Meeting, rewrote his personal best by recording 8.31. Ed Highton, who is also a Loughborough student, ran 8.55 on his return to racing after a long absence.

Also congratulations to former website administrator and athlete Tim Doran, who ran a PB of 2:33.42 in the London Marathon this morning, well done Tim!

Miles and Hallam shine in Sheffield

Sheffield paid host to the Lord Mayer's 10km this Sunday, and 2 very strong performances from 2 Owls athletes. While Emily Pidgeon ran an impressive 32:22 to get on the Women's UK All-time list, Paul Miles and Danny Hallam produced excellent debut performances over the 10 kilometer distance on the road. Miles, a former British Universities Cross Country Champion, ran 30:40 to claim 3rd place in the race with a strong personal best performance. But, arguably more impressively, 17 year old Danny Hallam, who never quite jusitified his fitness over a long season on the country, certaintly did so by hanging on to his older team mate to record 30:52 and 4th overall in the race. All bodes well moving forward to an eagerly awaited track season, with many of the club athletes hoping to rewrite some of their PBs.
