I totally,absoluetly and completely agree with this statement( am i clear on this!?) Re 'the one dimensional runner...'This relates strongly to the(social psychological) points i was making some time ago about awareness,humility,empathy etc and exhibiting a good mix of these traits through ones communication/actions.
These 'traits' are quite possibly more effectively inculcated through an appreciation of the arts etc...
I cant believe you didnt mention 'loneliness of the long distance runner'!I also quite like 'clockwork mice' and an Iranian film called 'The Runner'.Many of these films relate strongly to a sense of freedom and individuality funny how they choose running as the medium for this msg isnt it!
