Just another one for you all to think about!

Over the last few 5 years british athletes have won several medals in middle distance events at European and World level in the junior ranks. It seems like these athletes dissapear off the face of the earth when they progress into the senior ranks. Why is this? I think it was in the 1996 world junior champs that Tom lerwell won a silver medal in the world junior champs 800m, whats happended to him since?

It seems to me that many of our top middle distance runners are lost during the transition to the senior ranks. Ok several of them have had injury problems but this still only accounts for a small % of them.

Could it be the simple fact that we are not doing enough to help out our athletes during the transition from juniors to seniors? Do we need to make more use of under 23 events?

Cheers and beers The Turlo
