The Club was formed in 1983, and has become one of the most successful clubs in the area, catering for runners of all ages and abilities.

To cater for the junior element, and those with high performance and track & field aspirations, two separate Sections of the Club were created, one based at Saffron Lane Sports Stadium . The remainder of the members form the Legion Section, based at the club’s original HQ, the Royal British Legion, Bushloe End, Wigston, from which the club takes its name.

LEGION SECTION TRAINING

The main training night is Tuesday. Runners meet at the Legion ready changed at 6.45pm to leave at 7.00pm for runs of between 5 to 10 miles. Runners of all abilities are welcome and there will always be a group or an individual to run with. Club members are welcome to socialise in the Legion after the run.

More specialised track, speed and hill work is done on a Thursday at 6.45pm from the University track at Manor Rd, led by Les Chesterton. Once a month in the summer, this session, in the form of hill training, is held in Bradgate Park

Groups also have regular Sunday morning runs in Bradgate Park and on various other country routes.

RACES

Racing is not compulsory! Members are always welcome to run with the OWLS for relaxation and to generally improve their fitness. For those who do wish to race, there is the opportunity to take part in the Leicestershire Road Running League and other road races as well as cross-country and relay events.

For many events, the club provides an entry service – simply sign up at the Club and the rest will be done for you.

Race results will be available at the Club and also on this Website.

SOCIAL EVENTS

The Legion Section combines running and racing with an active social life and organises a variety of social events, including training week-ends. These are announced on club nights.

CLUB KIT

Club vests, T shirts, Sweat shirts, tracksters, fleeces are available. Club colours are black & white striped vests,black shorts.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Currently £13 per year, payable Feb.
