LIVINGSTON RELAYS

The Leicestershire Road Running League, and the former custodians of the race, the Leicestershire and Rutland AA, are again promoting the Livingston Relays. The race, hosted by Charnwood AC, now has an established date in the road running relay calendar – Easter Sunday. This year the race will be at 10.30am Sunday 27th March and, as before, will be staged over the fast 3 mile lap around the campus of Loughborough University, with the change-over area within sight of the new UK Academy of Excellence.

The event attracted a record entry of 49 teams last year from around the East Midlands, and includes categories for Ladies and Veteran Men, in addition to the main Senior Mens event. The date of the event is ideal for those clubs wishing to use the race as a trial for the Midland 12 Stage Relays on 2nd April

Livingston committee chairman Ramon Howe commented "Last year’s event was a huge success and one we can build on. Our entry was up on last year both in terms of numbers and quality. We are now endeavouring to interest more clubs in other parts of the Midlands, particularly those in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, as the race location in Loughborough is very convenient for them."

The current holders of the Livingston Trophy, a prestigious piece of silverware, are Charnwood AC, whose team covered the 4 x 3 mile legs in 60.52. Fastest leg, and current course record holder, is Paul Richardson (Charnwood) with a time of 14.33.

Charnwood also took the Ladies trophy, covering their 3 x 3 miles event in 54.40 and Mansfield Harriers sent a strong team to win the 4 stage Veterans title in a time of 67.01.

Team entries are being taken by John Skevington, 43 Ivanhoe St, Leicester LE3 9GX.
